A swimming pond combines a dedicated swimming area with a deliberately softer landscape. The outer edge can follow the garden, while the space beneath the surface gives you a clear, usable place to swim.

It is not an ordinary garden pond made deeper. Swimming, planting, circulation and filtration are designed together from the outset, creating a place for natural outdoor swimming without routine chlorine dosing.

The swimming area has its own shape and depth. A submerged division can separate it from planted shelves without making the whole pond look formal.

Is a swimming pond just a large garden pond?

No. A swimming pond is designed for people to use the water, with an appropriate swimming area, entry, circulation, filtration and care plan. A wildlife pond is designed primarily as habitat and should not be assumed suitable for swimming simply because it looks clear.

Can the swim zone be rectangular if the pond has curved edges?

Yes. A defined swimming area can sit inside a softer outer shape. The planted margins can follow the landscape while a submerged division helps keep the swimming space separate. The dimensions and construction are developed for the individual site.

Will I have to swim through reeds and water lilies?

No. Planting has its own space, and the layout keeps your swimming route open. We consider growth as well as the planting on installation day, so maintenance access and the separation between swimming and regeneration are part of the design.

Does every swimming pond need the same amount of planting?

No single planting ratio suits every design. The swimming area, expected use, filtration approach and site conditions all matter. We establish the complete system and the space it requires rather than applying a universal proportion to every garden.

Can I have a jetty and steps?

Entry can be designed around steps, a ladder or a timber platform where suitable. We look at the route from the garden, the support and surfaces underfoot, water depth and the people using it. A beautiful jetty still needs a practical, direct connection to the path.

Will wildlife share the pond?

Outdoor planted water can attract wildlife, so this is not a sealed or sterile environment. We keep the swimming area and planted margins distinct and discuss the character of the water honestly. No design can guarantee that wildlife will remain only in the planted zone.

Is a swimming pond heated?

No. We do not offer heating on our pools or swimming ponds. Water temperature varies with the weather, season and setting. We discuss that expectation early so the finished pond suits the kind of outdoor swimming you enjoy.

Can you assess an existing pond for conversion?

An existing pond needs careful assessment before it can be considered for swimming. Its construction, depth, water source, surrounding runoff, established ecology and room for filtration all matter. We do not recommend simply adding steps and treating a habitat pond as a swimming pond.
