Native planting

Marginal, oxygenating and deep-water plants chosen for the site. They hold the water clear and give wildlife somewhere to live.

Clear water, no chemicals

Balanced planting and the right depth keep the water clear. No chlorine, no dosing, no daily chemistry.

Habitat worth building

The UK has lost most of its small natural ponds over the last century, so a garden pond is genuinely valuable habitat rather than decoration. Within a season or two you can expect dragonflies over the water, frogs and newts in the margins, and birds coming down to drink.

Wildlife finds it

There is no need to stock a wildlife pond. Insects, amphibians and birds arrive on their own.

Seasonal work rather than weekly. Cut planting back in autumn and keep an eye on levels through a dry summer.

WILDLIFE PONDS

What a wildlife pond is

A planted pond with flowering perennials along its margins in front of a country house

Built for habitat first

A wildlife pond is a planted pond made for habitat rather than swimming, though it can be built to take a swim if you want one. Shallow margins, varied depth and native planting do the work. It can stand on its own or sit alongside a natural pool.

What we design in

Shallow shelved margins so frogs, newts and hedgehogs can get in and out.

Native marginal, oxygenating and deep-water planting.

A deeper zone that holds water and life through a dry summer.

Adding one to your garden

A pond can sit close to the house or away in longer grass. Every one is designed around the site, the light, the levels and the way you use the garden.

How we work
